Undergraduate Scholarship at Universiti Teknologi Petronas

The application for Undergraduate Programmes is open.
Deadline for July 2009 intake is on the 3rd of March 2009.

The Government of Indonesia through its Oil and Gas Department or MIGAS and The National Education Department or Depdiknas in collaboration with Petronas is offering full time scholarships for studies in Malaysia towards the following degrees :

BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONOURS)

2. Mechanical Engineering
3. Chemical Engineering
4. Civil Engineering
5. Petroleum Engineering

BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (HONOURS)

General selection criteria are as follows:
1. Age Not exceeding 23 years old on date of application
2. Marital Status Single
3. Academic Qualification Must have passed High School Level Examination (GCE O`Level/ SMA equivalent), and / or Tes Potensi Akademik from major universities in Indonesia
4. Language Proficiency Good command of English (oral & written)
5. Course of Study To follow any one of the above courses offered by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP)

The scholarships are offered to students to further their education and upon completion to serve either with Petronas or the Government of Indonesia in any of the designated departments, subsidiaries, companies, organizations or institutions for a period to be agreed upon.

PhD Fellowship in Tropical Ecology

Position Description:
I am looking to accept a bright and motivated PhD student into my laboratory at Rice University, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology starting Fall 2009. I am looking for prospective students with interest related to one or more of the following 3 areas: 1) Effects of altered functional diversity (invasion/extinction) and habitat structure on multi-trophic species interactions and ecosystem processes, 2)Impacts of climate change on species interactions and wildlife demography, 3) Evolutionary and behavioral ecology of mammals and birds. Preference will go to applicants with strong academic records and quantitative skills and previous research experience.

ASC - Master of Science: Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry

Targetted Students:
Application for admission in the ASC programme is entitled for students holding a Eurobachelor in Chemistry or equivalent education in the field of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Physics. Students from all over the world are welcome to join the programme.

Admission criteria:
The selection procedure takes place within a common framework to the seven partners of the consortium. The partners, select on the basis of study results, a CV, a statement of purpose and two letters of recommendation. They may not discriminate between their own students, students of other universities of EU or non-EU countries. If some partners do not fill their quota, the partner universities may, after consultation, expand their quotas according to the regulations of the network.

Application evaluation procedure
All applications are assessed by a centralized consortium commission. The following weighting scheme is applied to the selection criteria, producing a weighted arithmetic mean: - academic records of previous studies(coefficient 6, threshold 4) - scientific background of undergrad studies (coefficient 4, threshold 3) - ranking of Academic Institution where undergraduate studies were done (coefficient 2, threshold 2)- motivation letter (coefficient 2, threshold 3) - recommendation letters (coefficient 2, threshold 3) - mastering of foreign language(coefficient 2, threshold 2)- acquired practical experience (coefficient 1, threshold 2)- Awards and grants (coefficient 1, threshold 1)

Deadlines
1) For non EU students applying for an ERASMUS MUNDUS Scholarship (Action 2) :
Opening : September 1st 2008.
Deadline : December 19th 2008 (both for on-line and paper submission)
Admission decision (pending completion of Bachelor Degree): early May 2009

Cambridge International Scholarships (CISS)

About the CISS scheme
Cambridge University will offer, via the Cambridge Trusts, at least 40 Cambridge International Scholarships to Overseas Students who embark on a research course in 2009-10. The awards will be made on a competitive basis to those applicants considered by their departments to be the most outstanding.

Value of the award
Each award will underwrite the full cost of fees and maintenance for the duration of the course.

Duration of the award
The award has a maximum duration of three years and is available to all students who will be registered for a three year research programme, leading to the PhD (including CPGS), that starts in the academic year 2009-10.

Eligibility
To be eligible to receive a Cambridge International Scholarship students must:
- be liable to pay the Overseas University Composition Fee.
- be engaged in a three year research programme leading to the PhD (i.e. will be registered as PhD, "Probationary PhD" or "CPGS") starting in the academic year 2009-10.
- be engaged in full-time study.
- have a high upper-second-class undergraduate honours degree from a UK Higher Education Institution, or an equivalent from an Overseas Institution.

The application process
Every eligible applicant for a three year research course leading to the PhD in 2009-10 will be considered to have applied for a Cambridge International Scholarship provided their completed Graduate Admission and Scholarship Application Form is received by the Board of Graduate Studies before 15th December 2008. Applicants are expected to also seek funding from other sources.Departments will rank their outstanding applicants for consideration in the competition. Several hundred partially funded awards will also be made by the Cambridge Trusts using the departmental CISS ranking list.The attention of applicants is drawn to the 15th December 2008 deadline.
